I would calculate by taking 10% purchase price times 3..so $5 is 70% off...so total price is $5×.3=$1.50...but I never thought about it being percentage off each dollar...but I like that there's different ways to get to the same answer❤️

I would do 70:100=x:5, which would be 70x5(7x5=35 35x100=350) : 100= 3,5 and now you know the 70%of $5 Next you just have to do 5-3,5=1,5

How I got 1.50 or called one dollar and fifty cents. First I put fifty percent off the 5 dollars 5 divided by 2 is 2.50 now since we have 2.50 we have to add up to 70% because we only did 50%, So that we have 2.50, 10% is 50 cents in this equation. But we need 20% more so we just have to add the 50 cents together to make 20%, which is 1 dollar. Now we minus one dollar from the 2.50, Now we have 1.50😊

Percentage just means you're cutting everything into a hundred pieces. 70% of 1$ is 70 cents, 70% of X$ is just X times that 70 cents. Any percentage by definition is that percentage divided by 100 (for example 70% is equal to 70/100 or 7/10 or 0.7 ) It is no coincidence that most currencies in the world can be divided by 100, and are divided like that, a cent is just 1% of a $

So interesting that she had that thought pattern! For me, the imediate thought was "70% of 10 is 7, so 70% of 5 is 7 divided by two, which is 3.5. So 5 minus 3.5 is gonna be 1.5". I think it's easier that way.
